Walk to School Day

Picture
Smiling faces, a skip to each step, waving at everyone who passes by…this is what you’ll see on a Walk to School Day at West Elementary. The Walk to School Day is a tradition that began at West Elementary to create community as well as provide health awareness. It also increased the altruistic spirit within the school as each walk targets a charity in which items are brought for donation. A great way to begin a day, the West Elementary kids love the Walk to School day leaving many to ask their parents how long until the next one.

How does the walk to school work?
Children along with teacher and parent chaperones meet at 8:00 a.m. at Andover Country Club and West Parish (or wherever else a group would like to meet) and walk to West!

How can you help?
Neighborhood Captains - walk with the children to school. You would be the neighborhood cheerleader and would join other adults and teachers from your neighborhood leading the walk from your side of town.
Host family - Greet the children as they arrive at school and set up refreshments for them to enjoy upon their arrival to school. We have 6 walks a year so you can volunteer for any month that works. It is a great way to start the day and teach the children the important lesson of giving back! Please contact Gina Murray at murraygina@mac.com if you can help.
